2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid MPG by Grade and Drivetrain
Every grade of the 2026 RAV4 uses a hybrid powertrain, and its fuel economy depends on the grade and on front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Here are the EPA ratings for each version, what all-wheel drive costs in mpg, a rough range per tank, and the government's own advice on why mileage drops in a Chicago winter. Ratings are from fueleconomy.gov and toyota.com, read October 28, 2026.

What is the 2026 Toyota RAV4 hybrid MPG?
The EPA rates the 2026 RAV4 at 47 mpg city, 40 highway and 43 combined with front-wheel drive (LE, SE and XLE Premium). With all-wheel drive it is 46/39/42 on the LE and SE, 45/38/41 on the XLE Premium, 43/37/41 on the XSE and Limited, and 41/35/38 on the Woodland Edition.

The EPA ratings behind the numbers
| EPA listing | City | Hwy | Comb. |
|---|---|---|---|
| RAV4 (front-wheel drive) | 47 | 40 | 43 |
| RAV4 AWD SE & LE | 46 | 39 | 42 |
| RAV4 AWD XLE | 45 | 38 | 41 |
| RAV4 AWD Limited & XSE | 43 | 37 | 41 |
| RAV4 Hybrid AWD Woodland Edition | 41 | 35 | 38 |
Miles per gallon. From fueleconomy.gov (U.S. EPA and Department of Energy) records for the 2026 Toyota RAV4, 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid, read October 28, 2026; every version runs on regular gasoline and gets a fuel economy and greenhouse gas score of 7. The EPA's AWD XLE listing matches toyota.com's figures for the XLE Premium with all-wheel drive.
One hybrid powertrain, two outputs
Toyota.com lists the same hybrid powertrain for every 2026 RAV4 grade: a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT) with sequential shift mode.
Output depends on the drivetrain. Toyota.com lists 226 net combined horsepower for front-wheel-drive versions and 236 for all-wheel-drive versions. Front-wheel drive is listed only on the LE, SE and XLE Premium.
Both versions list SPORT, Eco, NORMAL, EV, TRAIL and SNOW drive modes.
If you are weighing front-wheel against all-wheel drive, ask our team at Chicago Northside Toyota about both versions of the grade you are considering.
How far can a RAV4 hybrid go on a tank?
Toyota.com lists a 14.5-gallon fuel tank on every 2026 RAV4 grade. Multiplying that by the EPA combined rating gives a rough idea of range: about 624 miles at 43 mpg (front-wheel drive), about 609 miles at 42 mpg (LE and SE AWD), about 595 miles at 41 mpg (XLE Premium, XSE and Limited AWD) and about 551 miles at 38 mpg (Woodland Edition).
That is our arithmetic from the published ratings, not a range figure from Toyota or the EPA. Real-world range depends on speed, temperature, load and how much of the tank you use before refueling.
Why your RAV4 hybrid's MPG drops in winter
Fueleconomy.gov says cold weather hits hybrids harder than conventional cars. For hybrids, fuel economy typically falls 20% to 40% in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips, and it varies by model. Its reasons:
Cold fluids
Cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids increase friction in the engine and transmission.
Longer warm-up
The engine takes longer to reach its most efficient temperature, which hurts short trips most.
Heat and defrost
Heated seats, window defrosters and heater fans use extra power.
Tires and air
Tire pressure drops in the cold, and denser cold air adds drag at highway speeds.
Winter gasoline
Winter blends can have slightly less energy per gallon than summer blends.
Battery and regen
Battery performance falls in the cold, which also affects regenerative braking on hybrids.
From fueleconomy.gov's Fuel Economy in Cold Weather page, read October 28, 2026.
Getting closer to the EPA numbers
Fueleconomy.gov's cold-weather advice: park in a warmer place such as a garage, combine trips so you drive less often with a cold engine, keep warm-up idling short (it notes most manufacturers recommend driving off gently after about 30 seconds), use seat warmers and defrosters only as needed, check tire pressure regularly, use the oil your manufacturer recommends for cold weather, and remove roof racks when you are not using them.
Year-round, it says aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic, and that mileage usually decreases rapidly above 50 mph.
When you visit the Chicago Northside Toyota service department, you can ask for a tire pressure check.

2026 Toyota RAV4 hybrid MPG FAQ
What MPG does the 2026 Toyota RAV4 hybrid get?
The EPA rates the 2026 RAV4 with front-wheel drive at 47 mpg city, 40 highway and 43 combined. All-wheel-drive versions range from 46/39/42 (LE and SE) down to 41/35/38 (Woodland Edition). Toyota.com lists the same figures by grade.
Is every 2026 RAV4 a hybrid?
Every grade on toyota.com's 2026 RAV4 specifications page uses the same hybrid powertrain: a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Toyota.com lists 226 net combined horsepower with front-wheel drive and 236 with all-wheel drive.
Which 2026 RAV4 gets the best gas mileage?
The front-wheel-drive LE, SE and XLE Premium, at 47 mpg city, 40 highway and 43 combined (EPA). Those three grades are the only ones toyota.com lists with front-wheel drive.
How much MPG do you give up with AWD?
It depends on the grade. Per the EPA, all-wheel drive costs 1 mpg combined on the LE and SE (43 to 42) and 2 mpg combined on the XLE Premium (43 to 41). The XSE and Limited (41 combined) and the Woodland Edition (38 combined) come with all-wheel drive only.
How far can a 2026 RAV4 hybrid go on a tank?
Toyota.com lists a 14.5-gallon fuel tank. At the EPA combined rating, that works out to roughly 624 miles for a 43-mpg front-wheel-drive version (14.5 x 43) and about 551 miles for the 38-mpg Woodland Edition (14.5 x 38). This is simple math from the ratings, not a Toyota or EPA range figure.
Why is my RAV4 hybrid's MPG lower in winter?
Fueleconomy.gov says hybrids are hit harder by cold than conventional cars: fuel economy typically drops 20% to 40% in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips, depending on the model. Cold fluids, a longer warm-up, heater and defroster use, lower tire pressure and winter-blend gasoline all play a part.
