With the many automotive technologies brands have perfected over the year, one that is not quite market-ready is wireless vehicle charging.
However, as a trailblazer in its field, Toyota is hard at work developing just that. What's more, it has just announced an official partnership with a company known as WiTricity known for its expertise in electric distance charging.
The partnership agreement cites that the two companies will work to develop 'wireless charging power capture devices' for autos that are powered by batteries and rechargeable hybrid-electric powertrains.
This means models like the Toyota Prius Plug-in and its other Prii family members have the potential for great innovative futures - and even to lose their 'plugs,' completely.
"WiTricity's mission is to make wireless charging available as widely as possible, and this announcement is a significant step toward accomplishing that mission," says WiTricity CEO, Eric Giler. "We envision a world in which wireless charging accelerates the adoption of clean, green electrified vehicles. To have Toyota, the world's leading carmaker, licensing our intellectual property, underscores the importance of the technology."1
