The Toyota Prius hybrid available here at Chicago Northside Toyota Scion in Chicago, IL is an incredibly popular choice, across the globe, even after more than 15 years as part of the new Toyota lineup.

And, now the proclaimed father of the Prius and chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, Takeshi Uchiyamada, is urging consumers and automakers alike to keep the hybrid in mind for the future. What's more, Mr. Uchiyamada considers hybrid vehicles to be a long and very sturdy bridge into it.

So, why is Mr. Uchiyamada holding strong to this more "old-school" form of alternative powertrains when other automakers seem to be branching out to super new age technologies such as self-driving autos? He explains:

"Some manufacturers are announcing vehicles that will be completely autonomous but Toyota believes new technologies, such as sensors that can apply brakes or control steering, should be added carefully and in stages. Toyota embraces the goal of zero highway fatalities but believes drivers may need to remain in control of their vehicles for the foreseeable future."1

As for other future endeavors for the Toyota brand, Mr. Uchiyamada did point out that he's looking forward to the new hydrogen fuel cell auto the Japanese automaker is hard at work on and the fact that the new car will be a zero emissions producing one with many advantages over battery-electric vehicles.
