It was just over a decade ago that the Toyota brand revolutionized the automotive industry forever with the introduction of the eco-friendly Prius. Now the Japanese automaker is seeking to do it again with their new hydrogen fuel cell concept, which was recently unveiled at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
While the concept has yet to be named, the Toyota brand has stated that it will have an impressive range of up to 300 miles and be able to refuel in a mere five minutes. The hydrogen fuel cell car will be powered by an electric motor that generates 130 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 10 seconds while only emitting water vapor as a waste product.
We aren't trying to re-invent the wheel; just everything necessary to make them turn," says Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc. "Fuel cell electric vehicles will be in our future sooner than many people believe and in much greater numbers than anyone expected."1
The Toyota FCV concept is slated for sale in 2015 and to ensure that refueling stations are available, many are currently planned for development around the U.S.
