Powertrain and Efficiency

The 2017 Toyota Highlander will be powered by a new 3.5L V6 engine with a Direct Shift system. It will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that produces 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque. That means the Toyota Highlander's powertrain is upgraded by 25 hp and 15 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 2.7L engine with Variable-Valve Timing for 185 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Additionally there is a fuel upgrade. Whereas the 2016 Toyota Highlander had an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, the 2017 model in all-wheel drive has an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The 2.7L engine can reach an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Also new for the Highlander is a Stop and Start engine system that makes the vehicle "turn off" when the brake is on the pedal, and "start up" when you release the brake. This system contributes to increased fuel economy numbers that are better than that of the 2016 model.

Other Upgrades

Looking for even more fun from the Highlander? Toyota Highlander upgrades for this model year include a standard back-up camera to assist with reversing and parking. Cabins will also have a total of five USB ports—that is four more than the previous model. You can keep all of your passengers happy and connected. On the Limited Platinum trim, you can utilize a four camera setup that creates a 360 birds-eye view with a perimeter scanner. We will also see a new Sport grade level that delivers a premium feel with black leather seating and dark accenting.
