The Toyota Concept-i, introduced at CES 2017 and hatched by the innovative minds at the Toyota CALTY design center, is in the process of measuring consumers’ emotional responses to the places in which they drive, employing a super in-vehicle butler of sorts called “Yui” who is a virtual driving assistant of futuristic proportions. The Toyota Concept-i vehicle aims to forge new pathways in the relationship between driver and car.
Yui At Your Service
Knight Rider had KITT, his highly advanced smart car. The Toyota Concept-i would give the average driver Yui, an advanced virtual friend that can tell when you’re sad, stressed out, distracted, and even bored; it aims to respond to these moods. Yui will also use autonomous technology to take over the responsibility of driving when it senses its human counterpart isn’t focusing, can’t handle the current driving conditions, and more.
Yui will additionally perform the other kinds of functions one would expect—things less advanced technologies already do, like blind spot information detection and navigation directions. Some less traditional Yui functions would be things like giving stressed-out drivers a seat massage to help them relax and supplying information about the area in which the driver is traveling.
The Future of Driving?
While the Toyota Concept-i is just that, a concept, experts believe this is the direction the automotive industry is heading: deeper interaction between drivers and their vehicles via highly advanced technology.
How soon until this level of vehicular technology becomes a reality is anybody’s guess. But automakers throughout the world are aiming toward a future in which consumers have a more personal relationship with their belongings, including cars, and enjoy a driving experience that is more fun, more pleasant, and definitely more interactive.
