The 2017 Toyota Highlander debut is sparking plenty of talk in the automotive community. The popular mid-size SUV is expected to enhance its performance specs and feature tech upgrades, making it an almost completely new vehicle. We are also in for a new trim level as well. The public will see the official reveal at the 2016 New York International Auto Show on March 23.

Luxurious Look, Feel, and New Trim Level

The newly created grille and revised taillights will have a sleeker finish for an elegant touch. Higher trims will receive a premium chrome finish on the grille and the rear bumper. The Limited and Limited Platinum grade trim levels provide optional seating for eight with second row bench seats or seating for seven with captain’s chairs.

The new trim level, SE, is a highly anticipated addition to the new Highlander lineup. The SE comes with its own unique 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a tuned suspension. The grille, headlamp casing, and roof rails also have their own finish with a dark paint coloring. Models have a black leather interior with silver accent stitching and patterning.

Performance

The all-new standard compact Direct Shift 8AT (automatic transmission) is coming to the Highlander with a brand new available 3.5L V6 engine—this engine will come standard on Hybrid models.

If you decide to choose the 4X2 Highlander LE gas model, you will experience the tried-and-true power of a 2.7L engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Models are expected to come with the fuel conserving Stop and Start Engine System.

New Safety Tech

Toyota Safety Sense is expected to come standard on new Highlander models, which means automated pre-collision braking, Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beam headlights, Forward Collision Warning and much more. Highlander XLE trims and higher will come with a blind spot monitor. A Platinum trim level will have birds-eye view cameras to help you see around the vehicle.
