The 2017 Toyota 86 already speaks to the sports car crowd. Its 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder DOHC engine shells out the 205 horsepower and up to 156 lb-ft of torque to zoom us round Chicago, Schaumburg, Glenview, and Park Ridge, and with a rear-wheel drivetrain and paddle shifter-equipped 6-speed auto transmission to keep the ride smooth using Dynamic Rev Management. 6-way driver and 4-way front-passenger seats with integrated headrests and knee cushions deliver sport-driving comforts while we jet by turning heads with style points like an aerodynamic rear bumper lower diffuser, 17-inch twisted-spoke alloy wheels, front fender-mounted vortex generators and 86 badge and chrome-tipped dual exhaust.
The came March 13, and a press release from Toyota showed us at Chicago Northside Toyota a special edition minting, the 2017 Toyota 860, to be released in a batch of the same number, later in March. With it, we saw the automaker take the 86 build some cool steps further.
With the new 2017 860 Special Edition, speedster aficionados can look forward to Halo White and exclusive Supernova Orange color options with black body stripe contrast, accented by a unique underbody panel bespeaking aerodynamism, a rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels and piercing LED fog lights to cut through the thick of it. And the interior expands on the very meaning of sport, offering a 4.2-inch multi-information display with G-force meter, stop watch, horsepower, torque curve, engine coolant and oil temperature and mpg metrics. Heated front seats with black leather and orange stitching extend their striking contrasts to 860's leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake lever, and you can set custom cabin comfort to match using dual-zone automatic climate control. The convenience of smart key with push-button start and touch-activated door unlock capability tops off 860 with some premium perks.
