The invention of cruise control was an incredible technological advance that has been with us for decades. You could set your speed, relax your foot on the accelerator and let the system maintain your speed going up and down hills. You would still have to be aware of slower moving cars in front of you, slow appropriately and reset your cruise control when the road cleared.
In the Toyota RAV4, engineers placed a radar unit on the grille and an in-vehicle camera to detect slower drivers as part of their new Dual Radar Cruise Control System. The system slows your car to match slowed traffic, maintaining a safe distance. If the car in front slows more, you are visually and audibly warned before the system applies your brakes. The system automatically resumes speed when the road clears.
