People in the greater Chicago area are gearing up for winter weather this year. They are following our advice at Chicago Northside Toyota and are stocking up on sand, salt, or kitty litter to help them should they become stuck on the ice or in a deep snow pile. Being stuck can be dangerous because as the temperature drops, the chance of hypothermia increases. If you become stuck in the snow or on the ice and have salt, sand or kitty litter at your disposal, then you will be far more likely to see positive results.

?Ordinary kitty litter can be used as a substrate under a vehicle's tires to give them a rough bed to grip to and move the car off of the ice. As many know, salt can be used to melt the ice and snow by spreading it and waiting for the ice to melt. This should leave you a path to drive out of. Sand can also be used as a substrate and is typically readily available and inexpensive.
