How to Reset the Maintenance Light on a Toyota Camry

MAINT REQD on a Camry is a 5,000-mile reminder, not a fault. It stays on until someone resets it after the service. Both methods Toyota uses are below; which one applies depends on your instrument cluster.

Quick answer

On a Camry with the multi-information display (2018 and newer, and higher grades before that): with the car on and the engine off, use the steering-wheel arrows to open Settings, choose Vehicle Settings, then Scheduled Maintenance, then Reset, and confirm with Yes. On a Camry with a basic odometer display: press ODO/TRIP until Trip A shows, turn the car off, press and hold the ODO/TRIP button while turning it back on, and hold until the dashes become zeros. Reset it only after the oil change or scheduled service has been done.

What the light means

The reminder counts miles since it was last reset. It flashes at start-up around 4,500 miles and stays on from 5,000, matching Toyota's 5,000-mile service interval. It does not sense oil condition, so after a service it needs a manual reset. The check engine light is different: that one stores a trouble code and needs a diagnosis.

Two reset methods, by instrument cluster Basic odometer display: trip-meter button TRIP A 000000 ODO Show Trip A, key off, hold the button, key on until the dashes become zeros Multi-information display: Settings menu Settings Vehicle Settings Scheduled Maintenance Reset > Yes Use the steering-wheel arrows and OK button with the car on, engine off
The method depends on the instrument cluster, not the exact year: a trip-meter reset on cars with a basic odometer display, a Settings menu reset on cars with the multi-information display. Your owner's manual shows which one you have.

Method 1: Settings menu (multi-information display)

  1. Press the start button twice without pressing the brake, so the car is on and the engine is off. With a key, turn to ON.
  2. Press the arrow buttons on the steering wheel until the gear icon (Settings) is highlighted on the display between the gauges.
  3. Choose Vehicle Settings, then Scheduled Maintenance.
  4. Select Reset, then Yes. The display confirms the maintenance data was reset.

Camry Hybrid uses the same menu. On 2025 and newer Camrys the Settings icon sits in the display's menu bar; the path is the same.

Method 2: trip-meter button (basic odometer display)

  1. With the car on and the engine off, press ODO/TRIP until the odometer shows Trip A.
  2. Turn the car off.
  3. Press and hold ODO/TRIP, and while holding it turn the car back on.
  4. Keep holding for about 10 seconds. The display shows dashes, then zeros, and the light goes out.

If the light stays on, start again from step 1; the button must already be held when the car comes on.

When not to reset it

  • Before the service is done; the light is the car's only reminder.
  • If a red or amber warning is on. Those are faults, not reminders.
  • If it returns within a few miles, which points to a cluster or wiring problem we can check.
