Here at Chicago Northside Toyota Scion, we have been investigating the qualities of the 2016 Toyota Camry vs. the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. While both sedans share similarities, there are also many key differences to keep in mind when choosing your next vehicle. The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu may be a popular pick, but we think that you may find that the 2016 Toyota Camry suits just about any driver with its excellent features.

The Camry has a standard 2.5L DOHC 4-cylinder engine with 178 hp. The Malibu has a comparable engine that is a 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder, but it only reaches 163 hp. The Camry is able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 7.8 seconds, while it takes 8.5 seconds for the Malibu. Additionally, the top Camry XSE and XLE engine option, a 3.5L V6 engine, has an amazing 268 hp. The Malibu's 2.0L turbo engine can only manage 250 hp. The Camry engine also only needs unleaded gasoline, where the Malibu thrives with premium fuel for its top power.

Cargo and Passenger Space

Loading and unloading in the Camry is simple from a trunk lift-over height of 28.2 inches. The Malibu has a lift-over of 30.5 inches. You can also privately lock cargo in the Camry with a locking glovebox to prevent theft, but this feature isn't offered in the Malibu.

The Camry also has larger space than the Malibu with 0.4 more inches of front hip room, 0.6 more inches of rear headroom, 0.8 more inches of rear legroom, and 1.1 more inches of rear hip room.

Ergonomic Features

If you are looking for convenience while you drive, then turn to the Camry. With one touch, you can open the Camry's power windows. In the Malibu, window buttons need to be held the entire time to fully open or close them. Bluetooth comes standard on the Camry base trims, and it only is standard on the Malibu LS and higher trims.

Drivers often worry about leaving their lights on. In the Camry, the headlights turn off and on automatically. In the Malibu, only the LS trim and higher include this beneficial feature. It also helps that the Camry comes with standard outside heated mirrors, so you don't have to worry about scraping them during chilly mornings. The Malibu makes you upgrade for this technology, and only the LT and Premier models offer heated mirrors. Overall, the Malibu makes drivers pay extra for convenience.
