The 8-passenger bench is an option on XLE, Hybrid XLE and Limited. XSE and Platinum are seven-seat only.
Tech and comfort worth knowing about
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on both screen sizes; the 12.3-inch system on Limited and Platinum adds a bigger map and split-screen views.
- Five USB ports (one USB-A media port, four USB-C chargers) and two 12-volt outlets are standard; Hybrid Limited and Platinum add two 120-volt outlets sharing 1500 watts, enough for a laptop or a cooler.
- Three-zone automatic climate control with a separate second-row panel and vents for all three rows is standard, so the back seats are not hostage to the front.
- The roll-top center console has a removable tray; there are 14 cup and bottle holders and a split-level shelf across the dash for phones.
- The third row is 60/40 split and folds flat; the second-row chairs tip and slide for access. Third-row leg room is 28.0 inches, enough for kids and short hops, not a cross-country trip for adults.
- Ambient interior lighting is standard from XSE up; Platinum adds a 10-inch head-up display that shows speed, road signs and, on hybrids, the hybrid system indicator.

If you need a third row adults can live in, the Grand Highlander adds about 5 inches of third-row leg room and roughly 20 cu. ft. behind it.
