What tire pressure should a Toyota Tacoma have?

Toyota's 2026 Tacoma owner's manual lists a recommended cold tire inflation pressure of 35 psi (240 kPa) for the 245/70R17 tire, 30 psi (210 kPa) for the 265/70R17 tire and 32 psi (220 kPa) for the 265/65R18 tire, with one figure per tire type rather than separate front and rear figures. Confirm the figure on the tire and loading information label on your truck.

From the "Tires and wheels" specifications in Toyota's 2026 Tacoma Owner's Manual (OM04051U), pages 626-628, read November 4, 2026. The manual lists one recommended cold tire inflation pressure per type. It gives a separate spare pressure only where shown in the last column; for the other types it lists a single pressure. Wheel nut torque in the manual is 97 ft-lbf (131 N-m) for aluminum wheels and 154 ft-lbf (209 N-m) for steel wheels.

Use the pressure on your Tacoma's label

The 2026 Tacoma's recommended cold pressure follows the tire: 35 psi (240 kPa) for 245/70R17 tires, 30 psi (210 kPa) for 265/70R17 tires and 32 psi (220 kPa) for 265/65R18 tires. The specifications table does not tie those types to a grade, so the simplest way to know which applies to your truck is the tire and loading information label. The manual says the recommended cold tire inflation pressure and tire size are displayed on that label.

The manual also says not to use tire sizes other than those recommended by Toyota, and not to use tires with a different load rating or speed symbol than what is specified on the tire pressure label or in the owner's manual. It adds a notice for rough roads: loose surfaces and potholes can cause losses in tire inflation pressure, so take particular care.

How to check Tacoma tire pressure

The owner's manual says to check tire inflation pressure every two weeks, or at least once a month, and not to forget the spare. Check only when the tires are cold: if the truck has been parked for at least 3 hours or has not been driven more than 1 mile (1.5 km), you will get an accurate cold reading. Always use a tire pressure gauge, because it is difficult to judge inflation based only on appearance.

  1. Remove the tire valve cap.
  2. Press the tip of the tire pressure gauge onto the tire valve.
  3. Read the pressure using the gauge gradations.
  4. If the pressure is not at the recommended level, adjust it. If you add too much air, press the center of the valve to deflate.
  5. After measuring and adjusting, apply soapy water to the valve and check for leakage.
  6. Put the tire valve cap back on.

The manual says it is normal for pressure to be higher after driving because heat is generated in the tire, and not to reduce pressure after driving. It lists what incorrect pressure can lead to: reduced fuel economy, reduced driving comfort and poor handling, reduced tire life due to wear, reduced safety and damage to the drive train. If a tire needs frequent inflating, the manual says to have it checked by your Toyota dealer.

The tire pressure warning light

The Tacoma's tire pressure warning system uses tire pressure warning valves and transmitters to detect low tire inflation pressure. The manual describes a 2-type warning:

"Adjust Pressure" (normal warning)

The light comes on and a buzzer sounds when pressure becomes low from natural air leakage or outside temperature. After the tires have cooled, check each tire and adjust them to the specified level.

"Immediately Check tire when Safe"

The emergency warning is for pressure becoming low suddenly due to a blowout. The manual says to immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place when the light comes on for low pressure, and notes the system may not be able to detect sudden tire ruptures.

Light blinks for about 1 minute, then stays on

This may mean a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. The manual says to have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

From the 2026 Tacoma Owner's Manual (OM04051U), pages 538-541, 580 and 582-583, read November 4, 2026. The manual says the pressures shown on the multi-information display can differ from a tire gauge reading, and that the system does not replace routine pressure checks. The temporary spare tire has no tire pressure warning valve and transmitter, so if a flat tire is replaced with it, the light will not turn off.

After rotating or replacing tires

The manual says the tire pressure warning system must be initialized when rotating the tires, when changing the tires, after registering ID codes and when changing between two registered wheel sets, because initialization sets the current pressure as the benchmark. Park in a safe place with the engine switch off and wait approximately 20 minutes or more, then adjust each tire to the specified cold pressure and turn the engine switch to ON. On the multi-information display, go to "Vehicle Settings", then "TPWS" (7-inch display) or "TPWS setting" (12.3-inch display), select "Setting Pressure" and hold until the tire pressure warning light blinks 3 times. Finish by driving straight, with occasional left and right turns, at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or more for approximately 10 to 30 minutes.

If initialization does not complete after driving for 1 hour or more, the manual says to park in a safe place for approximately 20 minutes and drive again. Reversing during initialization resets it, so start again from the beginning.

When tires or wheels are replaced, tire pressure warning valves and transmitters must also be installed, and new ID codes must be registered before the system is initialized. The manual says to contact your Toyota dealer when removing or fitting wheels, tires or the valves and transmitters, because they may be damaged if not handled correctly. The system can also store a second registered wheel set, such as a winter set.

Toyota Tacoma tire pressure FAQ

What is the recommended tire pressure for a Toyota Tacoma?

It depends on the tire. Toyota's 2026 Tacoma owner's manual (OM04051U) lists a recommended cold tire inflation pressure of 35 psi (240 kPa) for the 245/70R17 tire, 30 psi (210 kPa) for the 265/70R17 tire and 32 psi (220 kPa) for the 265/65R18 tire. The manual gives one figure per tire type, not separate front and rear figures. Your truck's tire and loading information label shows the figure for your tires.

Where do I find my Tacoma's correct tire pressure?

The owner's manual says the recommended cold tire inflation pressure and tire size are displayed on the tire and loading information label. Use the figure on your truck's label.

What tire sizes does a 2026 Tacoma use?

The 2026 Tacoma owner's manual lists three tire sizes across seven tire and wheel types: 245/70R17 110T and 265/70R17 115S on 17-inch wheels, and 265/65R18 114T on 18-inch wheels. Spares are a T175/90D18 111M compact spare or a 245/70R17, 245/75R17 or 265/70R17 spare, depending on the type.

What pressure should the Tacoma spare tire be?

The manual gives a separate spare pressure for three types: 60 psi (420 kPa) for the T175/90D18 compact spare with 17-inch type A tires, 32 psi (220 kPa) for the 245/75R17 spare with 17-inch type C tires, and 30 psi (210 kPa) for the 265/70R17 spare with 18-inch type C tires. For the other types it lists a single pressure. It also says not to forget to check the spare.

Should I check tire pressure hot or cold?

Cold. The manual says to check only when the tires are cold: if the truck has been parked for at least 3 hours or has not been driven more than 1 mile (1.5 km), you will get an accurate cold reading. It is normal for pressure to be higher after driving, and the manual says not to reduce pressure after driving.

How often should I check my Tacoma's tire pressure?

The manual says to check tire inflation pressure every two weeks, or at least once a month, and not to forget the spare. It adds that the tire pressure warning system does not replace routine tire inflation pressure checks.

Why is my Tacoma tire pressure light on in cold weather?

The manual says the light may come on due to natural causes such as natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature, and that in this case adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn the light off after a few minutes. Let the tires cool, check each one and adjust it to the specified level.

How do I reset the Tacoma tire pressure system after a rotation?

The manual says the system must be initialized when rotating or changing the tires, after registering ID codes and when changing between two registered wheel sets. Adjust each tire to the specified cold pressure first, then select "Setting Pressure" in the TPWS menu of the multi-information display and hold until the tire pressure warning light blinks 3 times. Initialization completes as you drive straight, with occasional turns, at about 25 mph (40 km/h) or more for about 10 to 30 minutes.

Does this apply to a hybrid Tacoma?

This page is based on Toyota's 2026 Tacoma Owner's Manual OM04051U, whose specifications list only the 2.4-liter turbocharged gas engine. If your Tacoma has a hybrid powertrain, use the tire and loading information label on your truck, or ask our service team.
