The Cars.com American-Made Index (AMI) is out, and once again sitting in position number one is not one of the Detroit Three brands, but a Toyota. The AMI is a comprehensive, ranked list of models that are both assembled in the United States, and contain at least 75 percent American-manufactured parts.

The Toyota Camry is built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK), where it supports over 6,000 full-time jobs.

It's not just the Camry, either. Toyota builds the majority of the vehicles it sells in the United States domestically, employing nearly 35,000 people directly, including nearly 25,000 American manufacturing jobs.

In addition to manufacturing, the Camry was designed and engineered in the U.S. at Calty Design Research, Inc. in California, and Toyota Technical Center in Michigan.

"This recognition from Cars.com is a tribute to Toyota employees, not only those at the plant who build the Camry, but the broader Toyota team who design, engineer, market and finance the vehicle in the United States," said Bob Carter, Toyota senior vice president of automotive operations. "We also support local suppliers and economies, and we have invested more than $6 billion into our Kentucky operations alone, which is growing with our new production engineering campus under construction there."
