In fact, the cost of manufacturer-recommended maintenance is over $400 more expensive in the Elantra compared to the Corolla! If you replace the power steering pump alone, you'll pay $200 more for a Hyundai part. Stick with the Toyota Corolla, and your wallet will thank you!

Finally, it's no surprise that the immensely popular Toyota Corolla handles well on the road. The latest model may be equipped with a continuously variable transmission, or CVT, which creates a smooth ride with enhanced fuel economy. The Hyundai Elantra doesn't offer a CVT at all. Plus, the Corolla stopped far shorter than the Elantra in testing by Motor Trend. The Corolla came to a stop from 60 mph in just 118 feet. The Elantra took 130 feet to do the same - a difference of over 10 feet!
