If you are interested in a new Toyota vehicle, or if you already drive a post-2015 Toyota, you may be aware of all the benefits of the Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS) driver-assist package. This suite of advanced technologies hosts a variety of features that make your drives throughout Chicago safer and more informed. The Toyota Pre-Collision System is one of the features included in Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS). So, how does the Toyota Pre-Collision System work? Read on to learn more!

How Does the Toyota Pre-Collision System Work?

The Toyota Pre-Collision System is available on many models, including several Highlander configurations. The Toyota Pre-Collision System utilizes a front-facing camera and a laser to monitor other vehicles on the path ahead of you. Here's how it works:

  • The front-facing camera and a sensing laser work in tandem to monitor the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle detected ahead of it.
  • The Pre-Collision System takes into account your current speed to determine if you are approaching the object or vehicle ahead of you at a safe rate.
  • If it senses a potential collision, it will alert you with both audible and visual warnings.
  • In response to the warning, you should apply the brakes and slow down to a safer following speed.
  • In the event that you are unable to apply the brakes soon enough, the Toyota Pre-Collision System automatically brakes on your behalf and may even deploy them at full stop with the help of Brake Assist.

While the Toyota Pre-Collision System certainly is not a substitute for alert and focused driving, it is a fantastic preventative feature to keep you safe in certain situations.
